The truth about our food

There has been a lot of debate in the media recently about the nutritional credentials of our products. We think people should look to the facts and beyond the hype. Research shows people who eat breakfast cereals, regardless of their sugar content, tend to be slimmer than those that don’t.

The criticisms ignore the fact that up to a quarter of Irish children’s vitamin and mineral intake comes from breakfast cereals and that breakfast cereals account for approximately 5% of the salt and 5% of the sugar in the nation’s diets. Further more, at around only 170 calories a bowl – breakfast cereals are a low-calorie start to the day.

Don’t forget, for every programme that criticises breakfast cereals, there’s another well-respected programme praising them. Take a look at the conclusion of Professor Lesley Regan from BBC2’s Professor Regan’s Nursery.
