Kellogg’s first came to Ireland in the late 1920s thanks to the distributor, Findlaters - our first official agent in the country. Irish people quickly fell in love with the Kellogg’s brands such as Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies and Special K and before long the name Kellogg’s was synonymous with breakfast time.
1938 - Kellogg’s opens its first UK manufacturing plant in Manchester - the world’s largest cereal manufacturing plant.
1940s - Kellogg’s is one of the first companies to add essential vitamins and minerals to its products in order to help the population meet their nutritional needs.
1943-47 - Production of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and Kellogg’s Rice Krispies ceases during the war years and the plant moves to production of Wheat Flakes using home-grown wheat.
1951 - W.K Kellogg dies aged 91.
1952 - Kellogg’s Bran Flakes are introduced in Ireland.
1953 - Distribution in Ireland moves to Brown & Polson, which later becomes CPC Ireland.
1955 - Snap, Crackle and Pop first appear on Kellogg’s Rice Krispies packs.
1958 - Variety Packs are introduced, as consumers want more choice at breakfast.
1959 - Special K is launched in Ireland.
1960 - Coco Pops is launched in Ireland.
1963 - The Beatles appeared on Kellogg’s packs. Consumers were given the chance to win a Beatles Fan Club badge.
1974 - Pat Jennings, former Northern Ireland goalie, stars in a Kellogg’s Frosties advert with Tony the Tiger.
1979 - Kellogg Company of Ireland is established and begins trading in 1980.
1980 - Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut Corn Flakes are launched; Kellogg’s becomes the first company to run a joint promotion with An Post.
1984 - Kellogg’s Fruit & Fibre is launched in Ireland.
1996 - Raisin Wheats and Frosted Wheats are introduced.
1997 - Kellogg’s launches its first range of cereal bars - Nutri-Grain and Rice Krispies Squares.
1999 - Special K cereal bar is launched.
2000 - Kellogg’s adds calcium to the range of vitamins and minerals that fortify its children’s cereals.
2002 - Kellogg’s Special K 10,000 Step Challenge results in over 40,000 applying for pedometers in Ireland.
2003 - The Kellogg’s Special K Drop a Jeans Size challenge is launched and becomes one of the company’s most successful promotions.
2004 - Kellogg’s is the first cereal manufacturer to print Guideline Daily Amounts (GDAs) on its packs.
2005 - Kellogg’s reduces salt in Kellogg’s Corn Flakes by 25% and consumers vote them “even tastier” than before. This also includes Kellogg’s Frosties and Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut, which are made from Corn Flakes.
2006 - Kellogg’s manufactures seven of the top selling cereal brands (Corn Flakes, Crunchy Nut, Coco Pops, Special K, Fruit n’ Fibre, All-Bran and Bran Flakes).
2006 - Kellogg’s Coco Pops Straws and Special K Bliss Bar launched.
2007 - Kellogg’s Special K Mini Breaks launched
2008 - Kellogg’s Special K Oats & Honey launched
2009 - Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Squares Totally Chocolately launched
